PAHO, the Pan American Health Organization, has done an interesting job on Knowledge management, producing a good analysis of critical factors of success of their effort to promote KM inside the organization. reflecting on these factors can be useful to promote the creation of knowledge networks inside and outside other organizations. Here is something about it:

  PRACTITIONERS KNOWLEDGE WORKERS
New BELIEFS – Knowledge that one has is critical to personal success
– Reuse destroy creativity
– Value is derived only from personal creativity
– Knowledge that one has and share is critical to personal success
– Reuse can fuelcreativity
– Better ideas can be generated from interaction and collaboration
New BEHAVIOUR – Occasionally captures and shares knwledge with personal network
– Occasionally seeks knwoledge to fill gaps
– Leverages personal network
– Routinely captures and shares knwledge with global network
– Routinely seeks knwoledge to increase effectiveness
– Leverages institutional network
